PUBLICATIONS

Chinhari’s journey weaves a tapestry of colorful stories filled with new ideas and inspirations. Each initiative has been a reiteration of the ethos of Chinhari – reviving community-oriented caring selves to build equitable and sustainable futures. Our publications are a glimpse into our world, our work and ourselves.

Our newsletters have been part documentation and part reflection of these processes. They are a way to share how the ideas emerged, how they took a form and how many of them translated into actual initiatives. They give a voice not only to our thoughts but also to the many questions that we have raised over the years.

Our newsletters tell the tales of hopes and dreams, ideas and reimaginations, challenges, hurdles and our persistent effort. Most importantly they tell our tales!

The Chinhari associates had embarked on their own journeys of self-discovery. The papers and articles are a glimpse into that world where we converge and walk on our independent paths.

Abhibyakti
Our Newsletter -

Chinhari works with young women who can, most often, read and write. This inspired us to motivate young rural Gond, Raut and Tamrakar women to write. We published our first newsletter in November, 2019. It is a space for free expression and co-learning.

Abhibyakti I

What happens when a group of young Adivasi women dare to dream of a completely transformed society? Welcome to the very first issue of the Abhivyakti newsletter, titled "Chinhari: The Young India." This issue is not just a publication; it is a profound manifesto of grassroots resilience, documenting the struggles, hopes, and unyielding spirit of a collective striving to build non-violent and equitable relationships between humans and nature, men and women, and the Adivasi past and present.

Inside this evocative first issue, you will discover:

  • The Weight of Water: Step into Mardapoti village, where the exhausting daily burden of fetching water falls disproportionately on young girls. Witness their courageous efforts to unite the community, stage plays to challenge patriarchal norms, and petition authorities—and confront the poignant, unresolved reality of their ongoing struggle.

  • A Revolution in the Soil: After discovering widespread anemia among their members, the girls of Chinhari didn't just look for medicine—they looked to the earth. Follow their journey to an experimental farm in Odisha to learn chemical-free organic farming, and read how they bravely battled hailstorms and droughts to cultivate nutrient-rich native seeds (Desi Beej) on a collective plot.

  • Cultural Crossroads: Experience a vivid, step-by-step documentation of traditional Gond wedding rituals. From the bringing of the sacred Chulmati (soil) to the Ganth-bandhan (tying the knot) and the Tikawan (blessings), explore how ancient Adivasi heritage is celebrated, even as modern elements like DJs and stages begin to alter the landscape.

  • Ideology in Action: Delve into the philosophical heartbeat of Chinhari. Discover how these young women are living out Mahatma Gandhi's "Constructive Programme" and Rabindranath Tagore's vision of rural reconstruction by bridging the gap between intellectual thought and manual labour.

Dive into Abhivyakti I and witness how the youth of tribal India are not just dreaming of a better future, but actively working the land to build it!
